This is a bilingual movie (French-German) and interestingly, it was shot close to where I used to live. The crew even stayed at the hotel my husband was working at at the time!

4. Populaire (2012)

The name of the movie refers to the typing machine that is being used for the movie: La Populaire by the brand Japy. A great movie that will particularly be enjoyed by everyone who loves retro and vintage stuff.

5. Les Émotifs Anonymes (2010)

Angélique is a very talented but extremely shy and emotional chocolate maker. After her former boss Mercier, whose chocolates became famous due to her recipes, dies, she is hired by another chocolate manufacturer, Jean-René van den Hugde who has a strong anxiety disorder when it comes to women and whose chocolate factory is on the verge of bankruptcy. However, nobody knows she was Mercier’s “magic hand” because she was too afraid to reveal herself to the public.

A sweet little story (forgive the pun =D) that you MUST watch with your own chocolates at hand (because otherwise watching this movie without them will be unbearable, haha).

6. Le Goût des Merveilles (2015)

Louise, a widow and mother of two, fights to keep her late husband’s home and business afloat. Her world is turned even more upside down the day she crosses paths with Pierre, a smart and autistic man.

A captivating story, definitely worth a watch. Brilliant performance by the actor Benjamin Lavernhe of the illustrious Comédie Française.

7. L’Arnacoeur (2012)

Alex, his sister and his brother-in-law run a professional “break-up” company, where Alex plays the role of the seducer in order to open women’s eyes to the bad relationship they are stuck in and help them get out of it. Their company is struggling to make ends meet until the day a rich client hires their services to get Alex to break up his daughter’s engagement and upcoming marriage to a perfect and flawless English gentleman. In 10 days. Things become complicated when Alex starts to fall for his client’s daughter.

They live right next to each other and can hear every sound and every word coming from the other side of the wall but they don’t meet or see each other because their apartments are in different buildings.

A lovely story.

9. La Confession (2016)

Exasperated by the town ladies’ swooning talk about the new priest, she finally decides to meet him in the confessional in order to provoke him and his beliefs.

10. La Délicatesse (2011)

After tragically losing the love of her life in a car accident, Nathalie buries herself in her work, losing all joy and taste for life. Until the day she suddenly kisses Markus, a random and not particularly attractive Swedish colleague from work.

An unusual love story.

11. Deux Moi (2019)

Rémy and Mélanie live right next door to each other but in different buildings. They don’t know each other although they frequently go to the same places and sometimes cross paths. Both go to see a psychologist because both are hurt and lonely and trying to meet someone without success. Will they find the way to each other?

A slow-paced movie with little dialogue. Great for beginners.

12. Tout le Monde Debout (2018)

English Title: Rolling to You
Genre: Romantic Comedy

Jocelyn, a successful businessman and womanizer, will go to any lengths to seduce a woman. Including pretending to be paraplegic. That was without counting with the fact that he would actually fall for a paraplegic woman.

13. Ange et Gabrielle (2015)
